Auf den Spuren der grünen Hölle | On the trails of the Green Hell - Nürburgring
Nürburg
Turn-by-turn directions
The path begins below the Nürburg castle ruins. From the starting point, you first go west around the Nürburg and then across the wet meadows "In der Stroth", created by damming layers of clay, in whose nutrient-poor soil thousands of orchids grow. The hike continues past the approach to the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. The next point the hiker reaches is the "Vulkan Nürburg", a tuff chimney carved out as a knoll, which offers a beautiful view of the Eifel landscape. Past the old Nürburg ski lift, it goes down over beautiful meadows to the town of Quiddelbach. From there the route leads to the "Selberg", a volcanic spring crest. The further route offers wonderful panoramic views over the heights of the Eifel to the volcanic mountain peaks "Hohe Acht", "Selberg" and "Nürburg". Over the Glatthaferwiesen "Im Ertrisch" it goes uphill over the Quiddelbacher Höhe towards Nürburg. Along the Nordschleife, through beautiful Eifel forests, you reach the "Buchental" quarry and return uphill to the route's starting point.
The route is consistently marked with the trail logo.
