Circular route | Müllenwirft-Schleife
Wimbach
Starting from the Hubertus Hut, situated above Wimbach, with a view of the Wimbach Valley as far as the little town of Adenau and the Hohe Acht, the path leads on the edge of the village from Wimbach slightly uphill to the high-altitude village of Kottenborn. A short break is recommended at the St. Antonius Chapel above the village. This chapel was first mentioned in 1403 and is one of the oldest sacred buildings in the High Eifel. The path continues into the "Kottenborn Switzerland", where a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside is unique on this tour. Here you have to stop and take a deep breath. Through the Kottenborn forest the path leads slightly downhill into the Wirftbach valley. Coming from Wiesemscheid, a 1.6 km long path meets the loop, and accompanied by the babbling of the Wirftbach stream, the path descends for 4.2 km to the Kottenborn mill. Below the fishing ponds, the path becomes a path and joins the K 3. The path continues past the site of a no longer existing oil mill to the Barweiler Mill.Next stop is the chapel "Müllenwirft". Afterwards, the path goes back a short distance and then slightly uphill into the forest district "Selbach" in the direction of Honerath. Before reaching Honerath, you will again have an extraordinary and beautiful view of the Adenauerbach valley and the Ahr mountains. The loop leads to the outskirts of Honerath and then continues through a deciduous forest, rising slightly to the ridge in the direction of Wimbach. From here to the finish, the panoramic views change constantly and give the hiker ever new and fascinating insights into the Hocheifell landscape.
